Do you really need to make a client avatar?
Do you really need to make an ideal customer avatar, aka a specific audience, aka a target market?
Business coaches like me are constantly trying to get you to make a client avatar or ideal customer.
But it’s worth asking the question, do you really need one? Is it really worth the time and effort?
Here’s what I tell my clients:
The first reason you need a client avatar is to gather enough research to demonstrate to yourself and any collaborators that there are real people out there struggling with the real problem or seeking the real desire you solve.
The second is to get YOU in the headspace of talking TO that person directly. When you can clearly define and imagine your audience, you can speak directly to them. When you do that, your marketing will actually land.
In fact I’m doing it right now. I’m talking directly to you - I’m guessing you’re either launching or growing a business, want to learn as much as possible to make it on your own, which by now you’ve realized can be really difficult. You tend to get overwhelmed by so many business related tasks and want all the complexities broken down into bite sized chunks that you can digest, implement, and then move on to the next item on your infinite list.
How’d I do? Let me know in the comments!
I can talk directly to you because I’ve made a client avatar, worked with so many clients in the same boat as you, and I’ve been in the same boat myself.
What do you think now? Have I convinced you to make that client avatar?
