Should you build a website yourself or pay someone to do it for you?
When considering building a website yourself or hiring a web designer, there are three things to consider…
1. Time vs. Money
If you have more time than money, it’s probably a good idea to learn how to build the website yourself. It’ll be a good process for your brain and won’t cost you very much.
If you have more money than time, spend the money on a great web designer and save yourself days of stress trying to figure out how to build a site.
2. Skills
Raise your hand if you’re bogged down by emails, zoom calls, and keeping up with all the socials kids these days are using. If you self-identify as not-techie, I strongly caution against trying to launch into building your own website.
I know from working with way too many clients who aren’t techie that trying to figure out how to build a website, which is complex, will stress you out so much that it’ll start to strain your whole life, your relationships, etc. You just don’t want that. Hire it out!
3. Quality vs. Efficiency
You’re going to get a much higher quality website when you hire a pro. That’s a given. But if you’re tech-savvy you might be able to throw up a quick site with the right copy, calls to action, and basic SEO that you need quickly enough that it’s just more efficient to do it yourself.
On the other hand, if you care about having a high-quality, well-branded website that thoughtfully converts clients or educates your audience, and you’re not really sure where to begin, it’s time to hire someone.
That’s how to decide whether to build a website yourself or hire someone to do it for you.
