Willing To Be Teased?? Your Flaws Give You The Ability To Lead – Sans Ego
Being willing to be teased is a sign that you’re able to relate with someone on equal ground.
Of course there’s a line where teasing becomes bullying, but as we heart-centered business owners step into greater and greater leadership roles, we need to keep our egos in check and let them be deflated by others in a healthy way.
And teasing, especially of leadership, is often a sign of respect and acceptance. It’s a way to bond with each other.
Now I know what you’re thinking, “But there’s nothing to tease me about! I’m a perfect yogi.”
Don’t worry, I’ve got your back…
Just think about all the goofy things you do from the way you use technology like a cave-person, to the way you over-analytically check to make sure your language is PC, to the way you reverently hold your hand over your heart when you want someone to know you “get them”, to the fact that when you get frustrated you go outside to do sun-salutations.
(No? …Am I the only one?)
What I’ve found is that no matter how justified I am, if I’m defensive even slightly, I lose all ability to relate with someone and enjoy myself (which I can still do when someone’s taking the mickey outta me).
This insight has made leadership a whole lot easier to accept and step into. It means I don’t have to be perfect and I don’t have to hide my real self from others. Instead I get to make fun of all the ways I try to be perfect. And let me tell you, they’re hilarious!
Time to be our goofy selves and learn to tease each other. It’s the only thing (paired with intelligent action of course) that’ll get us through this dark time on planet earth.
